Preferred Specimen:

Submit two separate specimens: 1) 10 mL urine submitted in urinalysis preservative/transport tube2) 10 mL urine in urine culture tube (gray-top)

Special Instructions:

Encourage clean catch mid-stream samples to minimize contamination and improve accuracy. If sample is submitted unpreserved, please indicate that specimen is from pediatric patient (patient is less than or equal to 12 years of age). Label the sample appropriately. Unpreserved urine will be accepted from pediatric patients only.

(Yellow/red swirl-top) urinalysis transport tube and (gray-top) urine culture tube

Quantity not sufficient for analysis, improper labeling specimen more than 24 hours old if unpreserved or more than 48 hours old for BD transport tubes, frozen specimens
