Preferred Specimen:

Whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube

Minimum Volume:

2.5 mL whole blood EDTA (lavender-top) tube

Special Instructions:

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not refrigerate. Traumatic draw can introduce thromboplastin and trap WBC and platelets. Refrigeration can precipitate fibrin and trap WBC and platelets.

Specimen Stability Components:

  • Room Temperature: 24 hours
  • Refrigerated: 48 hours (may cause platelet clumping)

Reject Criteria:

Hemolysis, clotted, received Frozen
